1. Enjoy the first carbon neutral paradise in Latin America
Reserva Conchal Golf Club 1st Hole
Are you worried about the planet’s health? We are too!
In 2015 Reserva Conchal became the first Latin American resort to be carbon neutral and we are thrilled to share this with you.
Climate change is a serious problem, caused primarily by the carbon dioxide released from burning fossil fuels like oil, coal, and gas. But there are things we can do about it — like choosing to go carbon neutral.
In 2014, after the first exercise measuring the Westin Golf, Resort & Spa, the Playa Conchal and the Golf Course Reserva Conchal operational carbon footprint, purpose and commitment to the extended certification were to establish carbon neutrality in 2016.
However, subsequently it was decided to go further and now we have become the first hotel and golf course in Central America to achieve Carbon Positive state, meaning that we do not only reduce and offset our emissions to achieve carbon neutrality but additionally we add an additional offsetting of 25%, achieving a positive balance,
We are glad to to be the first beach hotel in the entire Latin American region operating under the all-inclusive system, that manages to achieve a positive condition for its favorable balance in carbon emissions.
Carbon Neutrality extended certification covers all operations, services, and amenities offered by the The Westin Golf Resort and Spa in Cabo Vela’s facilities, Santa Cruz, Guanacaste, including the spa and golf course. Both emissions of greenhouse gasses are included as well as the fixing or sinking of carbon that also occurs within this defined scope.
To have a positive carbon hotel is a great step towards a cleaner and better World and sets a powerful example for the planet.
